ws:8-9mm; Jun-Sep; hawthorn (Crataegus spp), apple (Malus spp), wild cherry (Prunus avium), bird cherry (Prunus padus), birch (Betula spp), cotoneaster (Cotoneaster spp), rowan (Sorbus aucuparia); common throughout GB
ID: Typical form - largely white; a dark brownish blotch at 2/3 more-or-less surrounded by white; a transverse dark brownish line distal to this blotch; a preapical brownish blotch extending as "fingers" into the otherwise white costal (and to a lesser extent dorsal) cilia; an apical black spot extending as fingers into the apical cilia. Melanic form - largely dark brown but the apical black spot and preapical/apical chequered pattern of the forewing cilia are still present. Intermediate forms occur
