49.073 Acleris schalleriana (Viburnum Tortrix)
ws: 15-19mm; Aug-Oct, overwinters as adult > May; wayfaring-tree (Viburnum lantana), guelder rose (Viburnum opulus); locally common in S.England, local and less common in S.Wales and further north in England.
ID: Polymorphic. Similar to A.comariana/laterana. Said, in BTM, to be distinguishable by having an enlarged costal blotch extending towards the apex and in having a moderately rough-scaled costal margin to the forewing.
Form schalleriana: ground colour whitish-grey to cream-white, costal blotch entire
Form falsana: ground colour whitish-grey to cream-white, costal blotch fractured, the sub-apical spot being relatively or completely separated
Form plumbosana: ground colour yellowish-brown to light reddish-brown, costal blotch entire
Form castaneana: forewing almost unicolorous reddish-brown, costal blotch obscure
Male genitalia: readily distinguished from A.comariana/laterana by the process from the ventral margin of the sacculus and elongate aedeagus. A.comariana/laterana both have a notch in the ventral margin of the sacculus and a broad, squat aedeagus.
