63.023 Anania verbascalis (Wood Sage Pearl)
ws: 22-26mm (Goater), fw: 11-13mm (Sterling & Parsons); Jun-Jul; wood sage (Teucrium scorodonia); NS-B - heaths and shingle beaches from Devon to Lincolnshire
ID: Ground colour distinctive - yellow-orange, suffused with brownish-fuscous scales to a variable extent; markings brownish-fuscous - antemedian line curved; postmedian line strongly looped around discal spot and thickened at costa; subterminal line dentate; antemedian spot obscure, but its distal border is marked by a short dash to the costa; discal spot diffuse but its proximal border strongly marked as a thickened line from the costa, more or less connected to the postmedian line at its dorsal end and continuous with a costal streak that extends to the wing base; patches of clear (unsuffused) ground colour are usually present between the stigmata and proximal to the loop in the postmedian line, these being more obvious in more heavily suffused specimens; neural markings, of variable thickness, between the subterminal line and the termen result in an appearance ranging from a yellow-orange fascia with neural lines to a brownish-fuscous fascia with yellow-orange spots.
