Hydriomena furcata (July Highflyer) §1

ID: Hydriomena species show a distinct 'shoulder' at the forewing base. H.furcata is extremely variable in forewing pattern and colour. It flies later than H.impluviata (May Highflyer) (May-early Jul) and H.ruberata (Ruddy Highflyer) (May-Jun). H.furcata shows a short black diagonal dash to the forewing apex; H.impluviata/ruberata may also show this dash on occasions but both show 2 or 3 pointed black streaks between the veins near the forewing apex which are not seen in H.furcata.
Male genitalia: The uncus of H.furcata is notched; that of H.impluviata/ruberata is distinctly bilobed.
