69.010 Macroglossum stellatarum (Hummingbird Hawkmoth)
fw: 20-24mm, ws 50-58mm; Apr-Dec, mainly Aug-Sep, diurnal; lady's/hedge bedstraw (Galium verum/album), wild madder (Rubia peregrina); regular migrant, mainly to south coast of England, may be resident in SW.England.
ID: Most often observed hovering while feeding at tubular plants, when the orange hindwing can be seen. The two Hemaris (Bee-hawkmoth) species also feed in this way but have largely unscaled wings.
