in damp woodland in England and Wales, more local in north England and Scotland
ID: Forewing orange with a brownish border which tapers to the apex. E.verspertaria (Dark Bordered Beauty) is similar – the male has an orange forewing with a brownish border of even width (not tapering to the apex), the female has a lemon yellow forewing with a brownish border that does taper to the apex but the border has a deep indentation which narrows it at about halfway between apex and tornus.
