72.004 Hypena (hypena) rostralis (Buttoned Snout)
ws: 29-32mm (MBGBI10), fw: 13-15mm (Waring & Townsend); Aug-Oct & Apr-Jun, overwintering as adult; hop (Humulus lupulus); NS-B in hop-growing areas of S.England.
ID: Long porrect labial palps as in other 'snouts'; forewing ratio narrower than other Hypeninae; costa curved, apex slightly falcate. Forewing markings very variable in expression and may be plain. Pale costal stripe; small oval and kidney marks, each with a black scale-tuft; dark streak between oval and kidney; dark diagonal dash to termen near apex; postmedian line straight, sometimes edged white.
