73.039 Acronicta (Acronicta) aceris (Sycamore)
fw: 18-22mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 41-49mm (MBGBI10); Jun-Aug; sycamore / field maple (Acer psedoplatanus/campestris), horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum); common in SE & CS.England and East Anglia, local elsewhere in England and Wales.
ID: Forewing grey, often suffused brownish, with sinuate postmedian cross-line of pale arched blocks. A.euphorbiae (Sweet Gale Moth) has a similar pale line but is smaller (fw: 14-16mm) with a less elongate forewing and shows an additional curved antemedian cross-line. A.aceris typically shows a narrow black basal streak, branched at its distal end; this mark is lacking in the dark form infuscata and in A.euphorbiae.
