49.142 Falseuncaria ruficiliana (Rusty-tipped Straw)
ws:11-15mm; May-Jun; primrose (Primula), lousewort (Pedicularis sylvatica), goldenrod (Solidago); local on down/heath/moss throughout GB.

ID: Forewing ground colour varies from whitish to reddish. F.degreyana is confined to the Brecks of East Anglia has a generally rosy forewing ground colour and lacks the white edging to the median fascia shown by F.ruficiliana.
Male genitalia: The articulated tegumen and elongate uncus with 'U'-shaped apex, together with the bundle of long cornuti of the 2 Falseuncaria species are distinctive. The two can be separated by the shape of the valva and the transtilla. In F.ruficiliana the valva is broad and broadly rounded at the apex, with a triangular plate protruding from the ventral border, and the transtilla is a broad plate, emarginate in centre without strong spines. In F.degreyana the vlava is elongate with a narrowed truncate apex and no ventral triangular plate, and the transtilla is lobed and has two strong blunt spines in the centre.
