35.020 Anarsia spartiella (Obscure Snout)
ws: 12-15mm; Jun-Aug; gorse (Ulex europaeus), broom (Cytisus scoparius), dyer's greenweed (Genista tinctoria); common on heath and downland in England & Wales
ID: General shape with bushy labial palps characteristic of the genus (and of Hypatima). In the male, S3 of labial palps is very short and concealed in the dense tuft of scales arising from S2; in the female S3 is much longer and projects dorsally.
ID to genus based on male genital key: Abdominal S8 forming a complete ring; uncus not bilobed, valvae asymmetrical, both valvae with a curved appendage. A.spartiella is much less distinctly marked than A.lineatella.
