70.093 Gandaritis pyraliata (Barred Straw)
fw: 15-18mm; May-Aug; cleavers, bedstraws (Galium spp); common in England, Wales and lowland Scotland
ID: Eulithis mellinata (Spinach) has a similar unusual resting posture with the wings held away from the body and off the substrate. It also shares the straw colour with the central forewing cross-band not or not much darker than the ground colour. Most readily separated by the cilia which are chequered in E.mellinata and not in G.pyraliata. Other differences are the less angular 3rd line of G.pyraliata and the presence of a series of smudges distal to the 3rd line in G.pyraliata, these being faint or absent in E.mellinata.
