15.043 Phyllonorycter oxyacanthae (Common Thorn Leaf-miner)
ws: 6-8mm; bivoltine May, Aug; hawthorn (Crataegus spp); common throughout UK
ID: Forewing markings appear white on a coloured background, C1D1 not forming a complete transverse fascia, thorax without a lighter median line; apex of C1 not distal to apex of D1; basal streak and striguli edged black; D1 and D2 not much narrower than the space between them; apical streak extensive; ws<=8mm (excludes P.hostis and P.sorbi) > P.oxyacanthae/P.blancardella/P.mespilella which require genital dissection to separate.
Male genitalia: P.oxyacanthae is distinct in having the right costa ~2.5x longer than the left and with a strongly hooked apical spine.
Note that the image at dissection group shows the right costa on the left and is presumably therefore a dorsal view (very unusual for Dissection Group)
