73.012 Diachrysia chrysitis (Burnished Brass)
fw: 16-19mm; Jun-Jul, partially bivoltine in south Aug-Sep, occasionally trivoltine Nov; common nettle (Urtica dioica); common throughout GB
ID: Forewing somewhat falcate with a metallic greenish-yellow pattern. In form aurea there is a complete brown median fascia dividing the greenish-yellow colour into broad subbasal and terminal areas. In form junta the median fascia is incomplete so that the subbasal and terminal greenish-yellow areas are in contact subdorsally. The head and thoracic tuft are orange. D.chryson (Scarce Burnished Brass) is larger (fw 20-24mm) and has a relatively small brassy greenish-yellow area near the forewing apex only. Thysanoplusia orichalcea (Slender Burnished Brass) resembled form juncta but the subbasal greenish-yellow area does not reach the costa, the forewing is relatively narrow and only minimally falcate.
