49.357 Grapholita funebrana (Plum Fruit Moth)
ws: 10-15mm; Jun-Jul; plum, blackthorn, cherry and other Prunus spp; local in S.England & S.Wales

Synonym: Cydia funebrana (BTM)
ID: Similar to G.tenebrosana which has greyish-white labial palps and frons and a more uniform purplish fuscous forewing, lacking the whitish irroration (tips of scales) in the ocellar area shown by G.funebrana.
G.molesta is also similar but is known in GB only from accidental importation in larval or pupal stages. It has a moderately conspicuous white discal spot in the forewing and in the male a patch of pale scales on the hindwing termen.
Male genitalia: There is a projection of the ventral margin of the valva just proximal to the cucullus in both G.funebrana and G.tenebrosana. In G.tenebrosana this projection is asymmetrical with its apex angled towards the cucullus, in G.funebrana it is more or less symmetrical with the apex pointing directly away from the ventral margin. There is no such projection in G.molesta.
