The British ssp statices is endemic
ID: Characterised by a narrow blackish median fascia, bordered proximally by an indistinct antemedian line and a somewhat diffuse pale oval, and distally by an indistinct median line and a somewhat diffuse pale kidney mark. The presence and extent of ochreous scales around the stigmata and subterminal line is variable. P.flavicincta (Large Ranunculus) averages larger (fw: 17-22mm), with a broader forewing and less distinct blackish median fascia. The hindwing of P.flavicincta shows a thick grey median fascia, which is not present in P.xanthomista. P.lichenea (Feathered Ranunculus) also lacks the blackish median fascia and the male has bipectinate antennae, not so in P.xanthomista or P.flavicincta.
