73.212 Ipimorpha retusa (Double Kidney)
fw:13-15mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 26-32mm (MBGBI10); Jul-Sep; sallows/willows (Salix spp), black poplar (Populus nigra); local in damp woodland, fens and marshes in England and Wales.

ID: Ground colour usually dark olive, but ranges from brownish-fuscous to reddish-brown; oval mark elongate resembling a kidney mark, forewing termen emarginate, apex strongly falcate. The antemedian and postmedian lines are fairly straight and parallel. I.subtusa (Olive) averages larger (fw 14-16mm), has a paler olive ground colour, a fairly straight termen and a minimally falcate apex. The postmedian line is slightly convex towards the termen and is closer to the antemedian line at the dorsum than at the costa; it also shows a distinct claviform stigma (lacking in I.retusa).
