ws: 26-29mm; Jul-Aug; gorse (Ulex spp); NS-B on heaths and commons from Sussex to Wiltshire, mostly coastal
ID: Forewing light ochreous-brown with distinct black markings - a rectangular patch of slightly raised black-tipped scales (these scales are white at the base) proximal to the antemedian line which has a distinct angle as it approaches the costa; sinuate subterminal line; straight, narrow terminal line (according to Goater, the first and second lines (antemedian and subterminal) are pale, edged black distally and proximally respectively - but it is the black colour that is distinct).
