29.002 Diurnea lipsiella (Late Reveller)
ws: male 22-25mm, female 15-18mm (MBGBI4.1), fw male 10-12mm, female 7-8mm (Sterling & Parsons); Oct-Nov; oak (Quercus spp), bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), aspen (Populus tremula), small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata); local in woodland throughout GB except N.Scotland
ID: Males: generally drab with distinctive antennae. The antennae are described as "fasciculate" in MBGBI4.1 and as "finely pectinate" by Sterling & Parsons - but the "pectinations" are more like hairs and lack the rigidity of a comb - so perhaps "hairy" would be a better description. Forewing light brown, brindled grey and ochreous, a shade darker distal to an indistinct line from tornus to costa at 3/5; 2nd discal stigma (and sometimes 1st) usually discernible as a dark smudge. Female forewing short with acute apex, light grey with black markings.
