52.011 Synathedon myopaeformis (Red-belted Clearwing)
ws: 15-22mm (MBGBI2), fw 9-11mm (Waring); Jun-Aug; usually apple (Malus spp); NS-B England S of Humber
Comes to MYO lure all day, peak 11am to 1pm.
Two other Synanthedon species have a red abdominal band.
In S.myopaeformis the upper surface of the forewing is entirely black.
S.culiciformis (Large Red-belted Clearwing) is larger (ws 22-25mm, fw 12-14mm) and has red forewing base (upperside).
S.formicaeformis (Red-tipped Clearwing) has a red forewing tip (upperside and underside)
