70.225 Pachycnemia hippocastanaria (Horse Chestnut)
fw: 14-16mm; bivoltine Apr-May, Jul-Aug; heather (Calluna vulgaris), cross-leaved heath (Erica tetralix); NS-B in lowland heath mainly in Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of White and Surrey.
ID: On first exposure to this species the main difficulty is recognizing it as a macro-moth let alone a geometrid. However, a search for anything like it amongst the likely micro-moth families will be fruitless and once familiar with the species identification is straightforward.
