ws: 46-48mm (MBGBI1), fw: ♂21-29mm, ♀21-35mm (Waring); Jun-Jul; Common in grassy or weedy places throughout Britain; lfp: roots of grasses, burdock (Arctium), dead-nettle (Lamium), docks (Rumex), dandelion (Taraxacum), nettle (Urtica) and others.
A distinct subspecies H.h.thulensis was considered to occur in Shetland, but this is no longer considered to be a subspecies

ID: Large size; male forewing white with buff fringes; female forewing yellowish with variable brownish markings.
