ws: 4.5-6.0mm (MBGBI1); bivoltine May-Jun, Jul-Aug; oak (Quercus sp), mine Jun-Jul, Sep-Oct; common in SE England
ID: Terminal cilia not white; forewing with a pale basal spot and no other pale markings. Vertex black, frons yellow, collar white, eye-caps white.
Forewing apex dark purplish; variable paler area midwing.
If the pale basal spot is not noticed or obscured it may be mistaken for S.atricapitella; males may then be separated by the yellow frons.
Female genitalia: extensive sclerotisation and spiculation of corpus bursae and anterior ductus bursae
