ID: An extremely variable species. The most consistent marking is a round blackish spot occupying the dorsal ⅓ of the kidney mark. Most specimens show terminal and subterminal rows of black interneural spots. A pale subterminal line is commonly present, and is usually more prominent than, either the antemedian or postmedian lines. Doubled dark basal and antemedian lines are often present. The postmedian line is rarely distinct and usually obsolescent. A dark V-shaped median band is often present - this has its apex at the dark spot in the kidney mark and extends proximally to costa and dorsum from there, forming a “W” across both wings. Superficially, resembles a Conistra species - males readily separable by antennal form (see dissection below).
