37.054 Coleophora currucipennella (Scarce Wood Case-bearer)
ws: 13-15mm; Jul; oak (Quercus spp), hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), sallow (Salix spp); RDB Uncommon in England
ID: Forewing with longitudinal and oblique pale streaks without scattered fuscous scales, without a subcostal pale streak; coloured longitudinal streaks ochreous, coloured oblique streaks may be somewhat to extensively marked with fuscous scales so that they contrast in colour. Antenna white ringed ochreous or fuscous; scape white above, buff below, with a long tuft. May be externally similar to forms of C.betulella with the veins well-marked - distignuished in MBGBI3 by the labial palps being plain white in C.betulella, white on inner aspect, ochreous-grey on outer aspect in C.currucipennella; and by the costal line which is blackish-fuscous from base to ⅖ or more in C.betulella, ochreous-fuscous from base to apex in C.currucipennella.
Male genitalia: Tunica simple, vesica with a comb of cornuti; sacculus bowed with a small flap midway along its anterolateral margin and an additional small flap near the posterolateral angle; valvula short. In C.betulella the valvula is longer and the sacculus almost reaches its anterior margin
