73.016 Autographa pulchrina (Beautiful Golden Y)
fw: 17-20mm; May-Jul in south, Jun-Sep in north; various herbaceous plants; common throughout GB.
ID: Forewing reddish brown, extensively marbled pink or light purplish-brown; with a very variable central whitish-golden ‘Y’ (more usually a "v" and a dot) and a characteristic distinct gold-edged partly black ‘8’-shaped kidney mark. A.jota (Plain Golden Y) is similar but shows less marbling of the forewing; its kidney mark is not gold-edged and is therefore indistinct; it has less distinct cross-lines and it lacks the small black blotch proximal to the subbasal line. See Autographa pulchrina vs jota for more information. All other species with a ‘Y’ mark are not reddish.
