59.005 Coenonympha pamphilus (Small Heath)
fw: m33mm, f 37mm; usually bivoltine in south, univoltine in north May-Sep; various grasses (Poaceae); common in open habitats throughout GB.
ID: Similar to the much more localised C.tullia (Large Heath) which averages larger (although there is some overlap). C.pamphilus lacks the hindwing underside eye-spots of C.tullia ssp davus/polydama and has a large bold eye spot on the forewing underside unlike the small eyespot of C.tullia ssp scotica.
