73.142 Coenobia rufa (Small Rufous)
fw: 10-12mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 22-25mm (MBGBI10); Jul-Aug; jointed/sharp-flowered rush (Juncus articulatus/acutiflorus), soft-rush (Juncus effusus); local in fens, marshes and bogs in England, Wales and S.Scotland.
ID: Forewing ground colour ranges from pale straw through pinkish-brown to smoky brown; diffuse blackish central streak from base which fans towards the termen; variable dusting with grey; usually with a curved post-median line of small blackish dots; hindwing whitish or grey with a median cross-line or row of dots; narrow thorax. Antenna: male - ciliate, female - simple. Denticucullus pygmina (Small Wainscot) is similar in size and range of colour and markings but has a broad thorax and a more rounded forewing apex. Photodes minima (Small Dotted Buff) has the hindwing darker than the forewing.
