49.192 Endothenia ericetana (Field Marble)
ws: 14-20mm; Jun-Aug; marsh/hedge woundwort (Stachys palustris/sylvatica); local throughout GB
ID: Somewhat similar to E.quadrimaculana which averages larger (ws 18-22mm) and usually has a bolder black mark in the centre of the median fascia.
Male genitalia: The valvae of E.quadrimaculana are much narrower than those of E.ericetana; the uncus has 3 irregular rows of spines at its apex in E.ericetana, while in E.quadrimaculana there is a single row of 4 to 6 central spines; the shape of the aedeagus and arrangement of cornuti also differ.
