ws: 11-15mm; May-Aug; common in coastal sand-dunes in England & Wales, more scarce in Scotland

B.politella/desertella are distinguished in the key in MBGBI4.2 on shape of the forewing apex - somewhat pointed in B.politella, more rounded in B.desertella; and in the female on forewing ciliary lines as follows: B.politella one ciliary line, B.desertella two or more ciliary lines.
Female genitalia: Posterior margin of S8 deeply excavate ventrally to more than half its length (the sides of the excavation parallel); signum a pleated sheet with 2 transverse ridges; signum longer than apophyses anterioires.
