70.241 Crocallis elinguaria (Scalloped Oak)
fw: 18-22mm; Jun-Sep but mainly Jul-Aug;
various broadleaved trees; common throughout GB.
ID: Triangular resting shape, broad median fascia with a central spot, scalloped forewing termen – these features are all shared with Odontopera bidentata (Scalloped Hazel) and Colotois pennaria (Feathered Thorn). O.bidentata has a much more obviously scalloped termen, a variable ground colour which is usually some shade of brown rather than yellow with the median fascia contrasting little, and an earlier flight season (May-Jun) though there is some overlap in late Jun. Male C.pennaria has feathered antennae, both sexes often have a white spot near the apex and its flight season is Sep-Dec.
