70.233 Ennomos quercinaria (August Thorn)
fw: 18-22mm; Aug-Sep; broadleaved trees especially pedunculate oak (Quercus robur); local in England & Wales
ID: Holds wings at a shallower angle than other Ennomos species. Distal cross-line has a small kink as it approaches the costa. Forewing is usually speckled, shows some trace of a central spot and is orange in male, paler in female. Females may resemble E.erosaria (September Thorn) which lacks speckling, lacks any trace of a central spot, holds its wings half raised and the distal cross-line meets the costa without any kinking.
