49.338 Cydia pomonella (Codling Moth)
ws: 14-22mm; May-Oct; fruit of various trees eg apple (Malus spp), pear (Pyrus spp), quince (Cydonia oblonga); common throughout GB
ID: Usually distinguishable from similar species by the transverse strigulation of the forewing; large coppery ocellus (often without the substantial black dashes seen in its congeners); and the smoothly curved fairly well defined distal edge to the subbasal fascia (without the pronounced angular projection of C.splendana). Male has a submedian fold in the hindwing which (according to BTM) readily distinguishes it.
