04.100 Ectoedemia minimella (Broken-barred Pigmy)
ws: 5mm (MBGBI1), fw: 2.3-2.7mm (nepticuoidea.info); May-Jun, birch (Betula spp), sometimes hazel (Corylus avellana), leaf-mine Jul-Aug; local in south and west England, Wales, north and east Scotland
Synonym: E.mediofasciella (MBGBI1)
Synonym: E.mediofasciella (MBGBI1)
ID: Collar with hair scales, median fascia and no other pale spots > Ectoedemia group D
Frontal tuft black, collar black, fascia broad, transverse, dull white sometimes constricted in middle > E.minimella
Since the median fascia is broken into dorsal and costal spots less often than it is complete, the English names seems inappropriate and misleading.
I have been unable to establish from any reference source whether the hindwing should have a hair pencil but I did not see one in §1.
Supporting feature: 40 antennal segments (range 35-42)
Male genitalia: long, pointed pseuduncus; central element of gnathos narrow, truncate; dorsal margin of valva strongly convex.
